Lemont High School's Mike Diorio to Swim at Iowa Central Community College

Lemont High School senior Mike Diorio has committed to participate on the men’s swimming team at Iowa Central Community College beginning in fall 2015.

Diorio swam for four years at Lemont, doing so under coaches Erin Boyd and MJ Gasik. A team captain as a senior in 2014-15, Diorio owns one school record and three event runner-up finishes in the South Suburban Conference.

Diorio established most of his top individual times as a senior. He posted a pair of career-best times at the SSC Meet, finishing as the runner-up in both the 100 butterfly (59.31) and 100 breaststroke (1:08.99). He also reached personal bests in the 100 freestyle (55.28), 200 freestyle (1:57.78), (1:57.78), 100 backstroke (1:05.08) and 200 individual medley (2:15.69) as a senior.

Diorio established a school record in the 500 freestyle during his junior year, touching the wall in 5:10.12 at the Sandburg Invitational. He also posted a second-place finish in the 500 free at the SSC Meet in 2014.

A high honor roll student, Diorio will swim for head coach Mike Peterson at Iowa Central, a junior college located in Fort Dodge, Iowa. The Tritons’ swim program has been dormant the last two years, but Peterson has spent this year recruiting a team to compete during the 2015-16 school year.
