Lemont Historical Society Receives Grant For Steeple Project

Landmarks Illinois awarded $27,100 in grant funding to seven preservation projects across the state.

LEMONT, IL — The Lemont Historical Society has received a grant from Landmarks Illinois for its steeple repainting, according to a news release.

Landmarks Illinois awarded $27,100 in grant funding to seven preservation projects through the Preservation Heritage Fund and the Barbara C. and Thomas E. Donnelley II Preservation Fund for Illinois.

Lemont Area Historical Society was awarded $5,000 to repair and repaint the steeple at the former Lemont Methodist Episcopal Church, a news release shares. The steeple needs maintenance to prevent further water infiltration into the 1861 building, which today serves as a local history museum.

Grants were also given to projects in Chicago, Vienna, Warsaw, Wayne and Ottawa.
