Lemont Hockey Player Commits To Play In College
Lemont resident and 17-year-old Leah Roames has been playing hockey since she was six years old.
LEMONT, IL — Lemont resident and 17-year-old Leah Roames has been playing hockey since she was six years old. Now, the senior at LHS has committed to play ice hockey at Marian University in Wisconsin.
Leah's mother Christy said Leah started playing when they signed her younger brother up for lessons.
"The agreement was they had to finish a learn to skate class before they could play," Christy said, adding she thought the class would change her kids minds on playing. Both kids completed the class and joined a hockey league in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Christy said Leah and one other girl were the only girls on the team. While Leah's brother realized hockey wasn't for him, Leah continued to play.
In 2010, the family moved to Lemont and Leah started playing on a girls team with the Sabres. Leah eventually made her way to a AAA team called the Chicago Fury. Christy said over Leah's career she has traveled to Canada, Wisconsin, Indiana, Michigan, New York, Boston, and Pennsylvania. Leah has played on several teams over the years, but currently plays for the Sabres, who just won first place in the NIHL tournament.
