Lemont Hornets Lightweight Cheerleading Squad Finishes Third At State

LEMONT, IL — The Lemont Hornets Lightweight cheerleading squad recently finished a successful season with a third-place finish at the Illinois Cheer Association's state competition.

The team, which includes second, third and fourth grade girls, earned a bid for state at two qualifying competitions this season.

"I am so proud of these girls," Head Coach Anna Howard told Patch. "They've faced many challenges this season due to illnesses and injuries. We have definitely kept them on their toes!"

Howard said the Hornets were up against the top 10 teams in the state, and called their third-place finish in the small division of the competition an "incredible accomplishment."

"Many of [the girls] have never cheered before," Howard said. "Winning third is a testament of what amazing little athletes they are!"
