Lemont Keepataw Parade Grand Marshall Chosen

The Latz family will be the grand marshall of the 2017 Keepataw Parade.

LEMONT, IL — The grand marshall of this year's 67th Lemont Keepataw Parade will be the family of Keith Latz. According to a release, Latz, a life-long Lemont volunteer suddenly passed away Sept. 5, 2016. He was one of the main organizers of the Lemont Keepataw Parade for the past 19 years.

The parade committee said it is a fitting tribute that Latz is remembered and honored as the 2017 Parade Grand Marshall for the 67th Lemont Keepataw Parade. Latz was also a trustee for the Lemont Fire Protection District, from 2002-2016; a member of Lemont Open Space Advisory Commission, 2008-2014; Alvernia Manor Nursing Home Board of Directors, 2007-2012; former member of Lemont Little League Board of Directors, and coach; past President of Lemont Safety Village; Village of Lemont Trustee, 1993-2001; past President of the Lemont Jaycees, 1990-1991.

According to the release, Latz also helped plan Keepataw Days, volunteered for Lemont Channel 6 as a broadcaster and in videotaping, was a basketball referee and coach for boys and girls teams, was a collegiate athlete and Eucharistic Minister, Usher and Member of the Holy Name Society at SS. Cyril & Methodius Church.

The committee said Latz loved Lemont and gave selflessly to the community in so many ways.

The Lemont Keepataw parade will be held on Saturday, Sept. 2, at 2 p.m. in downtown Lemont. This year’s theme is A Salute to Volunteers.
