The race has faced some controversy in the town, due to the library board president Vytenis Kirvelaitis' successful objection of all newcomers' nomination papers, and the board's decision in 2018 to fire beloved children's librarian Mary Inman.
According to the library website, Kirvelaitis has been on the board since 1999; Sanders since 2013; Culcasi since 2015; and Burton since 2013.
