Lemont Library Offers Money Smart Week Events

Lemont Public Library will participate in Money Smart Week for the third year and will offer several events for the community.

LEMONT, IL — Lemont Public Library will participate in Money Smart Week for the third year and will offer several events for the community. Money Smart Week runs from March 30 to April 6 and is a national initiative between the American Library Association and the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago to provide financial literacy programming to help patrons better manage personal finances.

The library said there will be a week-long focus on financial topics for adults and teens. Kids can visit the library and share what they're saving for receive a free piggy bank, courtesy of Lemont Bank & Trust, a Wintrust Bank.

  • Understanding Social Security; Monday, April 1, at 7 p.m. Designed for those within 10 years of collecting Social Security benefits. Greg Kurinec of Bentron Financial will discuss when to take benefits; working while getting benefits; taxation; and spousal benefits.
  • College Saving Strategies for Business Owners; Tuesday, April 2, at 7 p.m. Learn ways to reduce college costs. Explore the many strategies to reduce your Expected Family Contribution (EFC) that are only available to families who own their business. Presented by the My College Planning Team.
  • Save or Spend: A Budgeting Game for Teens; Wednesday, April 3 at 6 p.m. Want to save money for your first car or your college education? Learn budgeting tips and tricks while playing a game. Ages 11-17.
  • To Trust or Not To Trust; Thursday, April 4 at 12 p.m. Learn about the differences between wills and Living Trusts and explore the advantages and disadvantages of each with Elder Law Attorneys from the law firm of Delaney Delaney & Voorn, Ltd.
  • Mortgages: What You Need to Know; Thursday, April 4, at 7 p.m. Mike Gamble of Wintrust Community Bank will discuss conventional mortgages and government loan programs offered by the Federal Housing Authority, Department of Veteran Affairs and the Department of Agriculture.
