Lemont Mathletes Place 17th At State Finals

The team was making its fifth team state finals appearance in six seasons.

LEMONT, IL — Lemont High School’s Mathletes team placed 17th of 58 teams at the 2018 Illinois Council of Teachers of Mathematics Division 3AA State Finals, which were contested on Saturday, May 5, on the campus of the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. The team was making its fifth team state finals appearance in six seasons.

According to the school, seniors Arjun Reddigari and Josh Reitz tied for 16th in the Junior/Senior 2-Person Team category, while freshmen Sriya Gandhi, William Gorski, Michael Haughey, Ryan Madera, Kelsi Padalia and Ethan Ragasa were 16th in the Algebra I Written Team competition.

The team’s top finishes in individual contests came from Ragasa, who was 33rd in Algebra I, and sophomore Ben Clarage, who was 35th in Geometry.

Lemont’s Mathletes team is coached by Angela Marshall, Dardrae Breig, Abbey Scupin and Ken Suslek. It has finished among the state’s top 20 in its division 10 times in 12 years, including 11th place finishes in 2007 and 2013.
