Lemont Opts Out Of Minimum Wage Increase

The village has decided to opt out of the minimum wage increase and the minimum number of paid sick days for employees.

LEMONT, IL — The Lemont Village Board has passed an ordinance opting out of the Cook County minimum wage increase and minimum number of paid sick days to employees. At the village board meeting June 26, Lemont chose to opt out of the ordinance which will go into effect July 1.

According to Cook County's website, the minimum wage ordinance the county passed in October 2016 would increase the minimum wage to $10 an hour. The paid sick days ordinance, which also goes into effect July 1, establishes a right to paid sick leave for employees of employers in Cook County.

According to a release from the village, the passage of this ordinance means Lemont businesses will not have to increase the minimum wage or sick days as dictated by Cook County.
