Lemont Park District Dolphins Finish Strong at Championships

The Illinois Age Group Championships were held July 23–26.

The Lemont Park District Dolphin had several swimmers notch top finishes at the Illinois Swimming Age Group Championships July 23 to 26.

The Dolphins placed 37th out of 100 teams, ledby Brandon Johnson who won the 10 & under 50 Backstroke in a time of 35.06 Seconds. This was the fist state championship for the Dolphins program. In addition, Johnson also placed 2nd in the 100 Backstroke & 100 Freestyle, and 3rd in the 50 Free, 200 Free & 400 Free.

The Dolphins had two 10 & under boys free relay teams. One relay team—Brandon Johnson, Michael Erickson, Matthew Johnson, and Michael Modine—placed 11th. The second team, which included Dylan Rusco, Joseph Modine, Shaw Carlson, and Kevin Hackiewicz placed 33rd. The Dolphins also had a medley relay which placed 17th and included Brandon Johnson, Michael Modine, Matthew Johnson and Michael Erickson.

Other great swims by Dolphins swimmers included; Matthew Johnson moving from 54th to 33rd in the 50 Butterfly, and 45th to 33rd in the 100 Butterfly. Michael Erickson moved from 31st to 21st in the 100 Backstroke, and 38th to 27th in the 50 Backstroke. Owen Ganzer represented the Dolphins 13-14 age group swimming in three events including the 100 Free, 100 Back and 50 Free. This was Ganzer’s last age group championship and he finished with three great swims with best times.

“Our swimmers have worked very hard preparing for this event and their hard work has paid off! The Coaches are very proud of all of our swimmers! Great Job Team!” said Head Coach Erik Enslen.
