Lemont Park District, Lions Club Voted Partners Of The Year

The winning entry showcased all the group's hard work and dedication they have given to the Lemont Park District over the last 50 years.

LEMONT, IL – The Lemont Park District and Lemont Lions Club won a partnership award at a ceremony honoring Illinois park districts. In October, the Illinois Association of Park Districts hosted their Best of the Best Awards Gala at Wheeling Park District's Chevy Chase Country Club. This ceremony gives statewide recognition to those who have made significant contributions to Parks and Recreation Agencies. This year, the Lemont Park District made a submission in the Partnership Award category and nominated the Lemont Lions Club.

According to the park district, the winning entry showcased all the group’s hard work and dedication they have given to the Lemont Park District over the last 50 years. In honor of the Lemont Lions Club 100th Anniversary, the group chose the Lemont Park District as the site for the Lions Club Centennial Community Legacy Project – the “100 Trees, 100 Volunteers, in 100 minutes” event. This park district said this project involved 100 volunteers planting 100 sapling trees within 100 minutes in the district’s Centennial campus, an area devastated by the Emerald Ash Bore.

According to the park district, the Lions also donated various larger trees and covered the cost to move other, more established trees to the area. In addition, the group committed to a 5-year replanting program, making a monetary donation over the next five years to assist with covering some costs to flourish this area annually.
