Lemont Police, Fire Go Under the Bucket for ALS

On what was already a chilly night, Lemont police and firefighters were doused in ice water for the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge.

Love or hate it, the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge has most likely taken over your social media feed.

The fundraising craze requires participants to dump a bucket of ice-cold water over their heads and nominate friends to do the same. Nominees then have 24 hours to follow their friend’s lead, or donate $100.

Lemont Fire Chief George Rimbo, together with Police Chief Kevin Shaughnessy and members of their departments were doused with ice water on Friday, Sept. 12, Lemont High School students did the dumping—gleefully pouring the buckets of icewater on the participants. Members of the fire department have been “challenged” as an entire department by Lemont resident Aletha Palasvynskito.

Chief Rimbo in turned challenged the Lemont Police Department and they accepted our challenge. Lemont Fire, police, and emergency management departments have been attending the game for several years as guests on “Hometown Heroes Night” to honor the work of Lemont’s police, fire and rescue units. The event also pays tribute to those who died in the 9/11 attacks. Citgo Lemont Refinery has joined in as well, in providing the buckets and towels for the participants.
