Lemont Ranked Among The Safest Cities In Illinois

LEMONT, IL — Lemont was recently named as one of Illinois' 50 Safest Cites of 2019, according to a report from Safewise. Lemont came in at No. 13 on the list, which reports that the town has a violent crime rate of .29 per 1,000 and a property crime rate of 6.11 per 1,000.

Safewise lists the population of Lemont at 17,035 and the median income at $91,056.

Illinois itself has a violent crime rate of 5.28 per 1,000 people, according to Safewise. The safest community in Illinois was listed as Campton Hills which had a violent crime rate of 0 per 1,000.

According to the report, the top 10 cities are:

  1. Campton Hills
  2. Gilberts
  3. Wilmette
  4. Homer Glen
  5. Huntley
  6. Buffalo Grove
  7. Hawthorn Woods

  10. Lockport

Lemont was listed right after Roscoe and right before Winthrop Harbor.

According to Safewise, it uses FBI crime data for its reports. It reviewed 2017 FBI crime report statistics and population data to identity the safest cities of 2019.
