LEMONT, IL — Lemont resident Jennica Mahoney has published a children's book, "Sleeping Sideways." Mahoney grew up in Decatur, and moved to Lemont with her family three years ago.

Mahoney has three children, who are the subjects of her book.

"After a long night of three sick kids kicking and hitting in their sleep, I joked to my husband that I was going to write a story to remember us surviving the night," Mahoney told Patch.

"The publishing process was unexpectedly smooth," Mahoney said. "I conveyed my ideas about the illustrations and they turned out better than expected and captured characteristics of our kids that fit them perfectly."

Mahoney said the first copy of the book was sent to her, and they immediately read the book as a family.

"I was able to read the book to the kids and share that moment with that," Mahoney said.

"It's a wonderful feeling to hear your kids be so proud of something that I did. That has been the most exciting part of this whole experience."
