Lemont, Romeoville Approve Agreement For 135th, Smith Road

The agreement is a voluntary disconnection of Romeoville annexed property by the Village of Romeoville, which will help Lemont development.

LEMONT, IL — The Village of Lemont approved an intergovernmental agreement with the Village of Romeoville at its meeting Monday. According to board documents, the two villages have been working for several months on an agreement for utility extension and development in the area of 135th Street and Smith Road.

The agreement includes a voluntary disconnection of Romeoville annexed property by the Village of Romeoville, which will help facilitate development for Lemont, board documents state.

"There's a long way to go on any development west of Smith Road, but this is an important first step," Village Administrator George Schafer said during the meeting, adding that there will be future coordination with property owners in the area, as well as CITGO.

The Village of Romeoville already approved the same agreement at its Sept. 2 meeting.

"This will be territory on the west side, west of Smith Road, that will be territory that potentially will be annexed into Lemont," Mayor John Egofske said.
