Perini’s great-grandparents immigrated to Chicago as young adults. Michelle was nominated by her mother, Diane, in honor of her grandmother, Ann O’Shea Spengler, who passed away last year at the age of 91.
“Michelle embodies the spirit of her grandmother, who was a firm believer in college education for women as well as passionate about community involvement,” Diane said.
