Lemont Scouts earn rare, prestigious award
Scouts mark this achievement as a highlight in their young Scouting careers

LEMONT, IL - Five Cub Scouts from Lemont Pack 249 were awarded the Boy Scouts of America’s Dr. Luis W. Alvarez SUPERNova Award for superior achievement in areas of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics).
The Scouts worked under the supervision and guidance of SUPERNova Mentor Mr. Michael Dunkin over the past 8 months. They completed a multitude of requirements including studying famous scientists, learning about the scientific method, kinetic energy, motion, probability, weather prediction, forensics, architecture, and participating in STEM-related activities and experiments in school and with their Pack, and even visited with a scientist from Argonne National Laboratory.
Each of these Scouts had earned a number of Nova Awards as well, before tackling the more challenging SUPERNova curriculum.
