Lemont Submits Grant Application For Bike, Pedestrian Bridge
The bridge would span the Old Lemont Road and Stephen Street bridge, which is adjacent to the proposed Centennial trailhead.
LEMONT, IL — The village has submitted an Illinois Department of Transportation grant application and is working on a Cook County grant application for a new bicycle and pedestrian bridge to help connect and bring trail users to the downtown Lemont area, officials say. Mayor John Egofske shared during the state of the village address that the bridge would span the Old Lemont Road and Stephen Street bridge, which is adjacent to the proposed Centennial trailhead.
"This is a major initiative to help connect the multiple biking trails in the surrounding three counties to one another and to bring connection to the downtown as well," Egofske said.
Three major trails converge on Lemont near the two canals downtown; the I&M, Centennial and the Cal-Sag trails.
