Lemont Takes Pride in a Great Season, But No Championship
The Indians fell to Nazareth Academy Saturday, 26-7, in the Class 6A State Championship game.
An amazing Lemont Indians football season under first-year coach Bret Kooi came up one victory short as the Indians lost the championship game Saturday to Nazareth Academy, 26-7. The Indians finished the season 13-1. Nazareth took home the Class 6A title with a perfect 14-0 record.
“We’re proud,” Lemont quarterback Ryan Dawson told Tribune Media after the game. “But ... we had one goal in mind: that was to win it. So it was really upsetting we didn’t get it done. But for any other team, they would die to be in this position.”
Seventeen players on Nazareth’s squad fell ill with stomach flu on Friday, but the team still pulled through.
