Lemont Township Highway Department Seeking Maintenance Worker Candidates

The Lemont Township Highway Department seeks qualified candidates for the full-time position of Maintenance Worker. The position reports to the Lemont Township Highway Supervisor. The starting pay rate is $24.50 per hour ($50,960 full-time equivalent) with a comprehensive benefit package including paid time-off, insurance and pension benefits.

Scope of Work: This is unskilled to semi-skilled work involving a variety of manual labor tasks including: construction, maintenance and repair of streets, sidewalks, storm drains, pipes and facilities. Position includes but is not limited to patching asphalt, pouring and finishing concrete, installing pipes, responding to highway department emergencies 24/7, being available for snow removal and ice control, and working overtime on weekends, holidays, and evenings when required.

Requirements: High school graduation or equivalent with some post high school education, training or work experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities for the position. Must possess a valid driver’s license, with the preference of already possessing an Illinois Class “B” Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with air brakes endorsement, or the ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.

The position requires the ability to operate safely a variety of equipment and vehicles including a snowplow truck. The successful candidate must be skilled in dealing tactically, courteously and professionally with all whom the position comes in contact. The position requires post-offer drug screen (including cannabis for CDL holders) a physical exam and ongoing random drug testing in accordance with federal motor carrier requirements, which includes cannabis and other controlled substances.
