Every year the Lemont VFW Post sponsors the national Patriot’s Pen essay for students in grades 6-8. This year’s theme for the essay contest was Why I Appreciate America’s Veterans.
Out of the hundreds of essays submitted by area schools this year, 16 winners were selected by the Lemont Post 5819 and the Lemont Ladies Auxiliary to move on to the regional competition. Four students from Old Quarry Middle School were selected to move on to the next level of the essay competition for their winning essays.
