junior Morgan Wrublik posted a runner-up finish in the shot put, while freshman Kaylie Politza was fourth in the 800-meter run at sectionals
LEMONT, IL — Lemont High School’s girls’ track and field program will be represented in state finals competition for the fourth time in six seasons. According to LHS, at the IHSA Naperville North Sectional on May 9, junior Morgan Wrublik posted a runner-up finish in the shot put, while freshman Kaylie Politza was fourth in the 800-meter run.
Both will compete at the 2019 IHSA Class 3A Girls’ Track and Field State Finals, which will be contested on Friday, May 17, and Saturday, May 18, at O’Brien Stadium on the campus of Eastern Illinois University in Charleston.
The school said Wrublik’s best effort in the shot put was 40’05.00”, which secured her second place in the event and ranked among the state’s top ten efforts in sectional competition. Wrublik also placed fourth in the discus throw with a school-record toss of 115’05” and was third in the long jump (16’09.75”).

Politza’s 800 meter run time of 2:14.22 not only was the fourth fastest in her own sectional, but it was the fourth fastest among all the state’s sectional competitors, as the top five state-qualifying times in the event came from the IHSA Naperville North Sectional. LHS said her time easily eclipsed the state’s minimum qualifying time (2:19.11), established a school record in the event, and is reported to be the fastest ever by a Will County area girls’ runner.
Lemont’s best state finals performance in girls’ track and field came in 2014 when Vika Marmaite finished as the IHSA Class 3A runner-up in the triple jump. The school said Politza is the first in program history to earn a state berth in the 800 meter run, while Wrublik is the first from the program to qualify to compete in the shot put since 2002.
