LHS Boys Golf Team Posts Second Straight 4th Place State Finals Finish
Over 36 holes, Lemont finished with a +60 628 (319-309).
LEMONT, IL — Led by head coach Mark Hollatz, Lemont High School’s boys’ golf team placed fourth at the 2022 IHSA Class 2A Boys’ Golf State Finals, which were contested on Oct. 7-8 at Weibring Golf Club at Illinois State University in Normal. Lemont was making its 12th team state finals appearance since 2005 and finished fourth for the second straight year, according to a release from LHS.
Over 36 holes, Lemont finished with a +60 628 (319-309). St. Ignatius (+35 603) captured the 2022 IHSA Class 2A State Championship, winning for the second straight year. Benton (+38 606) and Benet Academy (+52 620) also won state trophies. Lemont was tied for fifth after the first day of competition; only the top eight teams moved on to the final round, the school said in a release.
Senior Jack Crispo led Lemont by tying for 21st individually with a +12 154 (79-75). Junior Eddie Scott was just one shot behind and tied for 26th with a +13 155 (79-76). Freshman Joey Scott (+17 159; 82-77) tied for 44th, senior Daniel Stood (+20 162; 81-81) and junior Robert Politza (+20 162; 80-82) tied for 58th, and senior Luke Lagan (+30 172; 87-85) tied for 79th.

Lemont earned its state finals berth by pulling out a third-place finish at the IHSA St. Viator Sectional. Lemont advanced by just one stroke at the sectional, which featured three teams that eventually finished among the top four at the state finals, the school said.
St. Ignatius won the sectional, while Benet was the runner-up. The top three teams from each of the IHSA’s four Class 2A Sectionals advanced to state finals competition, as did the top 10 individuals from schools that did not qualify for state finals team competition.

Joey Scott led the squad in sectional competition, posting a -1 71 to tie for third individually. Crispo, Politza and Eddie Scott all tied for 13th with a +4 76..
Lemont captured its 17th consecutive South Suburban Conference title earlier this season.
Lemont’s first team state finals berth came in 2005, when the squad qualified for the IHSA Class AA State Finals, the school said. It advanced to the IHSA Class 2A State Finals each season from 2007-11, again annually from 2014-17, and in both 2021 and 2022. Its best team state finals finish came in 2011, when it earned a third-place trophy.
