LHS Cited To College Board’s AP District Honor Roll

Lemont High School District 210 is one of 447 school districts from the United States and Canada that has been honored by the College Board.

LEMONT, IL — Lemont High School District 210 is one of 447 school districts from the United States and Canada that has been honored by the College Board with placement on the 8th annual AP District Honor Roll. District 210, which was cited on this list for the first time, was one of 23 Illinois school districts included among this year’s honorees.

According to the school, districts included on this exclusive list have, since 2015, increased the number of students participating in Advanced Placement classes while also increasing or maintaining the percentage of students earning AP Exam scores of 3 or higher. The school said reaching these goals demonstrates that District 210 successfully identifies motivated, academically prepared students who are ready for the rigors of AP courses.

Since 2015, Lemont High School has seen a 40.3 percent increase in the number of students participating in AP Exams and a 39.7 percent increase in the number of AP Exams administered to its students, according to the school. Additionally, its success rate – which is defined as the percentage of exams resulting in scores of 3 or better – has increased 11.6 percent since 2015. The percentage of students who have secured at least one score of 3 or better has increased by 14.8 percent over the last two years as well.

In 2017, Lemont High School set school records for both participation in, and success within, the AP Program, the school said. A record 760 AP Exams were administered to Lemont High School students in 2017, and a record 70 percent of those exams resulted in scores of 3 or better. A record 463 students took at least one AP Exam in 2017, and 68.9 percent of those students recorded at least one score of 3 or better on an AP Exam.

LHS has also increased the number of AP classes it offers. The school said during the 2014-15 school year, it offered 12 AP classes. That number has increased by 50 percent, as the school now offers 18 AP classes in which students can enroll, including: AP Biology, AP Calculus BC, AP Chemistry, AP English Language & Composition, AP English Literature & Composition, AP Environmental Science, AP Human Geography, AP Macroeconomics, AP Microeconomics, AP Music Theory, AP Physics I, AP Physics II, AP Psychology, AP Spanish Language & Composition, AP Statistics, AP U.S. Government & Politics, AP U.S. History and AP World History.

Lemont High School has had seven students earn National AP Scholar accolades over the last two years, including a school-record five in 2017, the school said. Among the five was current senior Martynas Juskelis, who became the first student in school history to earn the honor prior to graduating from high school.
