LHS, D113A Moving To Hybrid Learning Sept. 28

Movement between hybrid learning and remote learning should be expected based on health metrics.

LEMONT, IL — Both Lemont High School and District 113A will return to in-person hybrid learning the week of Sept. 28, D113A Superintendent Anthony McConnell shared in an email update to families Thursday.

According to the update, in District 113A, students will be divided into A and B groups. A students will attend Tuesday, Thursday and every other Monday for full days and B students will attend Wednesday, Friday and every other Monday for full days.

"Our decision to begin the school year in fully remote learning was impacted by the absence of virus transmission metrics and thresholds for school leaders to consider when determining which instructional model to use," McConnell wrote. "Since that time, the Illinois Department of Public Health has developed metrics for local health departments to prompt discussion with school officials."

McConnell said the district also has access to Cook County Department of Public Health resources.

For the most recent week of data from Aug. 23 to Aug. 29, IDPH reported that suburban Cook County had 2,433 new cases, 464 which were youth cases. These two metrics were considered "minimal" by IDPH. IDPH did consider Cook County's test positivity rate and new cases per 100,000 to be "moderate."

"While we look forward to seeing students back on campus at the end of this month, please keep in mind that school in the midst of a pandemic is not business as usual," McConnell wrote. "Movement between more or less restrictive instructional models depending on COVID-19 metrics should be expected."
