LHS, District 113A Choirs Come Together For Concert

LEMONT, IL — Lemont High School’s choirs will join with choirs from Old Quarry Middle School and River Valley Elementary School for a Spring Choral Concert on Wednesday, April 18. The event begins at 7 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center. All community members are invited to attend this free musical event.

The school said the high school’s choir and those from Old Quarry and River Valley all will be performing, as will the high school’s A Cappella Choir. The high school choirs both are under the direction of Stephanie Cesaroni, the Old Quarry choir is headed up by Micah Brandhandler, and River Valley’s choir is directed by Allyson Zeglen and Jenna Treanor.

According to the school, Lemont High School’s choir will perform a variety of pieces, including “Didn’t My Lord Deliver Daniel” arranged by Patti Drennan, “Sisi Ni Moja” by Jacob Narverud, “The Runner” by Joshua Rist, “Circa Mea” by Mark Burrows, and “Ceciliada” by Marcin Wawruk. The A Cappella group will entertain with “The Longest Time” by Billy Joel, “Since You’ve Been Gone” by Anders Edenroth and Emma Nilsdotter, and “Run To You” arranged by Kirby Shaw.

Several students who received “1” rankings at the IHSA Solo & Ensemble Sectional in March will also perform their competition pieces, the school said. Senior Caitlin Canto will perform “What’s the Use of Wond’rin” from Rodgers and Hammerstein’s "Carousel"; senior Lauren Pengiel will perform Meredith Willson’s “Goodnight My Someone” from "The Music Man"; junior Maria Purpura will perform Noel Gay’s “Once You Lose Your Heart” from "Me & My Girl"; and sophomore Gabrielle Salomon will perform Arthur Sullivan’s “Love is a Plaintive Song” from "Patience."

Old Quarry’s choir will perform “Can You Feel the Love Tonight” arranged by Audrey Snyder and “There is Peace” by Jim Papoulis, while River Valley will feature “Oye” by Jim Papoulis, Jean Ritchie’s “What a Goodly Thing,” and “This Is Me” from "The Greatest Showman."

All four groups will close the concert with a performance of Aaron Copland’s “I Bought Me a Cat.”

Lemont High School is located at 800 Porter Street in Lemont. Attendees are encouraged to park in the Performing Arts Center Lot, Parking Garage or the West Lot, all of which are accessible off of Julia Street.
