LHS' FBLA Chapter Nets 11 First Place Finishes At Competition
Lemont will now compete at the 2019 Illinois FBLA State Leadership Conference in Springfield, on April 5-6.

LEMONT, IL — Lemont High School’s chapter of the Future Business Leaders of America placed among the top two in 15 of its 19 events in a regional event on Jan. 19. The school said Lemont racked up 11 event wins at the Central Northern Area Conference regional, which was contested at Lincoln-Way East High School. Lemont will now compete at the 2019 Illinois FBLA State Leadership Conference in Springfield, on April 5-6.
Students in Lemont’s FBLA chapter were among competitors representing eight Chicago-area high schools at the Central Northern Area Conference regional.
The school said Lemont students placed first in six team competitions and five individual events. Juniors Linas Juskelis, Jake Konieczka and Louka Ziogas won in Business Ethics; seniors Sebastian Rafacz, Pawel Skotnicki and Arijus Trakymas triumphed in E-Business; juniors Matthew Deuschle and Anish Sabnis were victorious in Entrepreneurship; freshmen Jayne Pelen and Jackie Wencl were tops in Intro to Business Presentation; seniors Brett Abbott, Andrew Deuschle, Gavin Pawell, Nathan Pawlak and Lucas Zaczek won in Parliamentary Procedure; and seniors Ella Pelen and Briley Rakow came away with a win in Publication Design.

Individual winners included seniors Alex Fugiel (Future Business Leader), Kirsten Kash (Broadcast Journalism), Matt Krueger (Accounting II) and Anna Mietus (Public Speaking), and freshman Ross Metzler (Digital Video Production). According to LHS, four individuals also recorded runner-up finishes, including Brett Abbott (Battle of the Chapters), juniors Abigail Belsan (Sales Presentation) and Jacob Clarage (Job Interview), and sophomore Sean Abbott (Sports & Entertainment Management).
