LHS Honored For Act Of Kindness To Dying Grandmother
LHS was able to honor the request of a grandmother who wanted to see her grandson graduate before she passed.
LEMONT, IL — At the July 23 board meeting, Mayor John Egofske recognized the Lemont High School Board of Education and administration with a certificate of recognition. According to the mayor, the board was able to honor the request of a grandmother who wanted to see her grandson graduate before she passed.
Josephine Schneider was diagnosed in 2014 with ovarian cancer, according to the Mayor. Her grandson, Paul Crandall, was a graduate in the Class of 2018 at LHS. Schneider suffered setbacks in April, and realized she would most likely not see Crandall's graduation at the end of May.
The family reached out to LHS and Superintendent Dr. Mary Ticknor, who was able to "set the gears in motion," the mayor said. Schneider's hospital room was soon converted into a graduation ceremony, and Ticknor, Principal Eric Michaelson, and board members Gary Gray and Renee Koehler, conducted the ceremony for Schneider and Crandall.
