LHS Honors November Students Of The Month

Senior Joe Gumina, junior Aubrey Molitor, sophomore Sean Abbott and freshman Isabella Wilton were chosen as students of the month.

LEMONT, IL — Four Lemont High School students were honored with November Student of the Month accolades at the district’s Board of Education meeting on Nov. 19. The four students are senior Joe Gumina (Music), junior Aubrey Molitor (Mathematics), sophomore Sean Abbott (Business) and freshman Isabella Wilton (Science).

Each month, Lemont High School honors a student from each grade level for hard work and dedication to the school and the community. The school said selections rotate among the school’s various departments from month to month. Only 32 students earn “Student of the Month” accolades each school year, with four individuals honored each month from October through May. Students may be selected for this prestigious honor only once in their careers at Lemont High School.

Local businessman Brad Grcevic, of Edward Jones, Inc., contributes a donation each month to a charity selected by the “Student of the Month” award winners. This month’s winners selected Hope & Friendship Foundation to receive the donation, according to the school.

Sean Abbott, Sophomore, Business

The Business Department cited Sean Abbott as the Sophomore Student of the Month. A high honor
roll student, Abbott’s current favorite class is Accounting I, but he says he enjoys all of his math classes and also liked Introduction to Business last year. He is involved in both the Future Business Leaders of America and Junior Achievement. The school said Abbott is described as a quiet leader with a passion for business, and as a hard worker and inquisitive thinker who consistently demonstrates a polite nature. He was the recipient of the Francis De Angelo award at his middle school. Abbott plans on attending college and hopes to pursue a career either in business or the film industry. In his free time, he enjoys playing baseball and basketball.

Aubrey Molitor, Junior, Mathematics

Aubrey Molitor was selected as the Junior Student of the Month by the Mathematics Department.
Molitor is a high honor roll student who most enjoys classes in math and history, but adds she
appreciates any teacher or class that helps her to learn and improve. The school said she is involved in a wide range of activities, including Mathletes, Model UN, Health Occupations Student Association, and girls’ golf. She also is a Mu Alpha Theta inductee, is helping to start a school chapter for the National Social Studies Honor Society, and earned AP Scholar accolades. Lauded for her inquiring mind and ability to ask questions that get to core concepts, Molitor says her ideal career will incorporate science, forensics, law and criminal justice. In her free time, she enjoys volunteering, playing the piano and listening to music.

Joe Gumina, Senior, Music

The Music Department picked Joe Gumina as the Senior Student of the Month. Gumina is a high honor roll performer who most enjoys marching band, concert band and AP Biology. The school said his teachers applaud his time management skills and ability to connect with his peers. Gumina has taken advantage of many opportunities in the music department. He has been the lead in the school’s musical, served as the lead drum major in the marching band, leads the Tri-M Music Honor Society as its president, and is the first student in school history to earn a 5 on the AP Music Theory exam. Gumina also plays in the Honors Jazz Band, Honors Symphonic Band and Jazz Combo, and is a two-time all-district musician. He plans on majoring in biology, with designs on becoming a physician’s assistant, and also hopes to join or establish a big band in
which he can perform. In his spare time, Gumina serves as a soccer referee and likes to play the piano, work out and spend time with family and friends.
