LHS Junior Qualifies For IHSA Class 1A Girls’ Tennis State Finals
Horky is just the second Lemont girls' tennis player to earn multiple state finals berths.

LEMONT, IL — Lemont High School junior tennis player Grace Horky’s effort in sectional competition has earned her an invitation to the state finals. Horky finished fourth in singles competition at the IHSA Joliet Catholic Sectional on Oct. 14, clinching her trip to the 2017 IHSA Class 1A Girls’ Tennis State Finals, which will be contested from Thursday, Oct. 19, through Saturday, Oct. 21, and hosted by Districts 211, 214 and 220. LHS said Horky is just the second Lemont girls’ tennis player to earn multiple state finals berths.
According to the school, Horky will enter the IHSA State Finals with a 26-6 record. She punched her ticket to the state finals by winning her first two IHSA Sectional contests in straight sets, surrendering a total of two games in two matches. In the semifinal match, she was up a set but was forced to retire due to injury in the second set. Horky also defaulted due to injury in the third-place match, but she is expected to compete in the IHSA State Finals.
LHS said in 2015, Horky became the first freshman in program history to qualify for the state finals. She will open state finals play against Chicago Lake View’s Maria Rivas on Thursday, Oct. 19. Horky helped head coach Chris Hill’s team to its 12th straight South Suburban Conference-Blue Division title earlier this fall. She was the champion in the No. 1 singles flight for the third straight season.
