LHS, Old Quarry Team Up For Jazz Concert

Lemont High School's jazz bands will join with the jazz band from Old Quarry Middle School for "An Evening of Jazz" on Thursday, April 12.

LEMONT, IL — Lemont High School’s jazz bands will join with the jazz band from Old Quarry Middle School for “An Evening of Jazz” on Thursday, April 12. The event begins at 7 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center. All community members are invited to attend this free musical event.

The school said Lemont High School’s honors jazz band and jazz band both will perform, as will Old Quarry’s jazz band. The honors jazz band is under the direction of Matt Doherty, the jazz band is headed up by Dave Nommensen, and Old Quarry’s jazz band is directed by Frank Alongi.

Lemont High School’s honors jazz band will perform several pieces, including Herbie Hancock’s “Watermelon Man” (arranged by Gordon Goodwin), Chuck Mangione’s “Bellavia” (arranged by Victor Lopez), “Funky Cha-Cha” by Arturo Sandoval, and “Tomorrow” by Martin Charnin and Charles Strouse.

According to the school, Lemont High School’s jazz band will entertain with “Ceiling Dogs” by Steve Wiest, “Manteca” by Dizzy Gillespie, “Saxes with Attitude” by Michael Sweeney, and Kris Berg’s “Tastes Like Chicken.” Old Quarry’s jazz band will perform “April in Paris” from Count Basie and Radiohead’s “Creep” (arranged by Postmodern).

Lemont High School is located at 800 Porter Street in Lemont. Attendees are encouraged to park in the Performing Arts Center Lot, parking garage or the West Lot, all of which are accessible off of Julia Street.
