LHS Senior Becomes Third Student To Record 3 FBLA State Titles
A record 11 Lemont students have earned the chance to compete at the national level after combining for six top-four finishes.

LEMONT, IL — Lemont High School's chapter of the Future Business Leaders of America placed among the top ten in 10 of 11 events that students entered at the 2019 FBLA State Leadership Conference, which was held April 5-6 in Springfield. Senior Anna Mietus also received a state championship at the competition, the school said.
According to the school, competitors who finish among the top four in their respective categories earn the right to participate in the 2019 FBLA National Leadership Conference, which will be held in San Antonio, Texas, this summer. A record 11 Lemont students have earned the chance to compete at the national level after combining for six top-four finishes.
Mietus took the top spot in Public Speaking, and became the first Lemont student to earn four FBLA National Leadership Conference berths. The school said she has previously won state titles in Intro to Business Presentation in 2017 and Broadcast Journalism in 2018, and was the state runner-up in Sales Presentation as a freshman in 2016.

Several other students also placed in the top four in their categories. Senior Kirsten Kash was the state runner-up in Broadcast Journalism. Seniors Andrew Deuschle, Nathan Pawlak and Lucas Zaczek placed third in Marketing; seniors Brett Abbott and Gavin Pawell were fourth in Business & Financial Systems; juniors Matthew Deuschle and Anish Sabnis placed fourth in Entrepreneurship; and juniors Ella Pelen and Briley Rakow were fourth in Publication Design.
The school said Lemont’s other top-ten finishers included juniors Linas Juskelis, Jake Konieczka and Louka Ziogas (5th - Business Ethics); freshmen Jayne Pelen and Jackie Wencl (6th - Intro to Business Presentation); junior Abigail Belsan (7th - Sales Presentation); and junior Chris Vasvery and sophomore Sean Abbott (10th - Sports & Entertainment Management).

Lemont’s FBLA chapter has won at least one state title in eight of the last ten years, and has captured multiple titles six times (2010 - three; 2011 - five; 2015 - three; 2016 - five; 2017 - four; 2018 - four). Lemont’s FBLA chapter is sponsored by teacher John Aspel.
