LHS Senior Places Third At IDEA State Competition

LEMONT, IL — Lemont High School senior Matt Milan earned a third place medal in the Architectural Board category at the 2019 Illinois Design Educators Association State Competition, which was held at Illinois State University on April 27. Junior Billy Bozue (Architectural Board) and sophomore Matas Carmichael (Introductory CAD) also participated in the event. The school said Lemont has had at least one IDEA State Competition participant in 11 of the last 12 years.

Bozue, Carmichael and Milan advanced to the state competition thanks to their performances at the IDEA Regional at Joliet Junior College on March 1. According to LHS, Milan became the latest Lemont student to triumph in the Architectural Board division in regional competition. In that category, students are challenged to design and/or draw specified views, details or sections using provided materials, specifications and drawings. A Lemont student has won the regional in Architectural Board six straight years, dating back to 2014.

Also in regional competition, Bozue earned a runner-up finish in Architectural Board, while Carmichael was second in Introductory CAD. Participants in this category are challenged to draw specified views of a given drawing problem.

Students representing a number of Joliet-area high schools competed in ten divisions at the IDEA Joliet Junior College Regional, one of many regional sites across the state. All first and second place finishers in individual competitions earn the right to compete at the IDEA State Competition, as do winners of team divisions, the school said.

The divisions in which students compete are: Architectural Design, Engineering Design, Introductory Board, Introductory CAD, Architectural Board, 2D Architectural CAD, 2D Machine CAD, 3D Architectural CAD Modeling, 3D Assembly Modeling, and 3D CAD Modeling.

Lemont has earned multiple medals in state competition three times in four years; it captured three state medals in 2015 and two each in 2016 and 2018.
