LHS Student To Participate In ILMEA All-State Event

The upcoming Illinois Music Education Conference will be held from Jan. 24-26 at the Peoria Civic Center.

LEMONT, IL — Lemont High School junior Megan Zhou (Tenor Saxophone) will participate in the upcoming Illinois Music Education Conference, which will be held from Jan. 24-26 at the Peoria Civic Center. The school said the conference is hosted by the Illinois Music Education Association, the IMEC attracts the top performers from across the state, and includes guest conductors, seminars and a number of concert performances.

Zhou will participate as a member of one of the All-State Bands. At the conference, participants audition against the state’s other top musicians in their respective instruments. According to LHS, those auditions determine both into which ensemble a student places, as well as which chair the student will hold within that ensemble.

Students rehearse for parts of three days with their respective groups before capping their experience by taking part in concerts on the conference’s final day. The ILMEA All-State Concert begins at 1 p.m. on Jan. 26, while the Honors Concert follows at 3:30 p.m.
