LHS Students Head To IHSA Journalism State Finals

This marks the tenth straight season Lemont will send multiple students to the state finals.

LEMONT, IL — Two Lemont High School students have advanced to compete at the 2019 IHSA Journalism State Finals, which will be contested on the campus of Heartland Community College on Friday, April 26. Junior Chris Duda and sophomore Nour Longi each posted runner-up finishes in their respective events at sectionals to earn state finals berths, the school said.

According to LHS, Duda placed second in News Writing, while Longi was second in Broadcast News. They were part of a Lemont contingent that combined for four top-six finishes at the IHSA Homewood-Flossmoor Sectional on April 13. This marks the tenth straight season Lemont will send multiple students to the state finals.

Lemont’s Journalism advisor is Susan Szafranski, and its head Yearbook sponsor is Cara Forde.

The school said IHSA Journalism State Finals includes contests in 18 newspaper and yearbook related categories, with students being asked to meet a different challenge in each competition. The top three finishers in each category from seven IHSA Sectionals advance to compete at the IHSA State Finals.
