Long-Time Lemont Police Commander Retires
Lemont Police Commander Gregory Smith will retire after 27 years with the police department.

LEMONT, IL — Lemont Police Commander Gregory Smith will retire after 27 years with the police department. Smith started his career in Lemont in April 1991, serving as a patrol officer, detective and Sergeant before he was promoted to Commander in 2006, the department said.
The department said Smith is credited with enhancing the police department during his tenure as the leader of many program innovations.
Smith said in a release he would like to thank the Village of Lemont and its citizens for 27 years of support in helping to keep Lemont a great place to live and work.

Residents that know Smith and would like to wish him well are invited to the Lemont Police Department for a Cookie and Coffee Retirement Reception on Wednesday, Feb. 28, from 3 to 4:30 p.m.
