Man Charged After Fatal August Hit-And-Run In Chicago: Cops

LEMONT, IL — A Chicago man was taken into custody in Lemont on Wednesday in relation to an August vehicle chase and crash where a 16-year-old was killed, according to a release from Chicago Police.

Josue Mendoza Berrera, 26, was charged with reckless homicide/motor vehicle, leaving the scene of an accident (injury/death) and speeding 35+ mph over the limit.

Mendoza Barrera was identified as the driver of a minivan who chased and struck a vehicle, causing it to crash and killing a 16-year-old passenger on Aug. 3 in Chicago, Chicago Police said.

Mendoza Barrera fled the scene of the crash, which happened in the 4500 block of West Armitage, police said.

He was arrested on Wednesday by members of the Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force in the 1000 block of 101st Street in Lemont, police said.
