Market On State Planned In Lemont

A lease has been signed for a new grocery store in Lemont.

LEMONT, IL — Lemont residents may have seen some activity recently at the former Chipain's grocery store site off of State Street. According to the village, a lease has now been signed for Market on State, which will be operated by the owners of Pete's Fresh Market.

"For a town of our size to only have our grocery store vacant for about 12 months before signing a deal is really a positive sign," Village Administrator George Schafer said at the April 9 board meeting.

The location has sat empty for a year, since Chipain's closed in March 2017.

Mayor John Egofske said at the same meeting that the business is putting a $5 to $6 million dollar investment into the property.

The village is still working with the business on an incentive agreement.
