As for issues in the village, Maher said the single most pressing issue facing the village is the Palos Park annexation.

"I believe the annexation of the golf courses into Palos Park is the biggest issue serving this board," he said. "This is a significant amount of property with development potential that can have a huge impact to our community from property values to schools, fire district, park district, and library."

He added that the village needs to work with the landowners and through the judicial system, if needed, to ensure that the development of these properties fits into the Lemont landscape and to ensure that Lemont manages the impact to all services.

Maher's other focuses would be on the reduction of vacancies in Lemont commercial sites, the responsible development of open spaces, and the connection of downtown Lemont to the surrounding trail systems.

Maher said he's running for trustee because of his proven track record of serving for the betterment of the community.

"I have a proven track record on the planning and zoning committee as an independent voice who votes in the best interest of our community."
