Glenn Pasiewicz, a candidate for village trustee, shares his ideas for revitalizing businesses in Lemont.

LEMONT, IL- Glenn Pasiewicz, a candidate for Lemont village trustee, shares why he should be elected for the position.

Pasiewicz has served as Executive Director of the Lemont Chamber of Commerce for the past three years. He attended Illinois State University where he earned a degree in marketing.

For Pasiewicz, the biggest issue for the village is the lack of retail development in Lemont.

"We currently have far too many vacant store fronts in our community and too few new businesses arriving," he said.

He believes hiring a full-time economic development coordinator would help the village.

"It will be their job to focus on attracting those businesses that we desperately need here including restaurants, stores, boutiques and even those companies that provide entertainment to the younger generation that so many surrounding communities are offering their youth."

Pasiewicz said that as a former small business owner and executive director of the Chamber of Commerce, he understands the pulse of the town.

"Being the Executive Director of the Chamber I have a wide network of fellow directors from Chambers across the state that I can reach out to learn what their communities are doing to grow their towns," he added.

He also believes landlords need to fix up and maintain their current structures.

"Many own older buildings that must be brought up to code and not at the expense of the prospective tenant or merchant," Pasciewicz said.

He also said that Lemont has a number of buildings that are structurally unsound and must be removed to make way for new construction, whether it be for residential, commercial or multi-use purposes.

"We need to continue to remove those unnecessary construction barriers that make it harder to do business here in Lemont," Pasciewicz said.

Pasciewicz said he would be honored to be part of a team that would drive retail growth and make Lemont a vibrant community again.

"My goal is first retain the businesses we already have and then to attract new stores, shops, restaurants and entertainment venues to town."

Pasciewicz shared that he is running for village trustee because of his love of the community and wanting to make the town even better.

"I see how surrounding communities have grown and want to follow that blue-print," he said. "We have incredible schools, a fantastic park district, police and fire departments, library, township center and are in a logistically desirable location."

He added that most importantly, Lemont has citizens who love living in the town, and want to see it reach its full potential.

Pasiewicz has a wife, Mary, and two adult children.
