LEMONT, IL — The upcoming election is less than two weeks away, and early voting has already started. In Lemont, one of the contested local races is the race for District 113A Board of Education. There are four open positions on the board, and Al Malley is one of the five candidates running.

Malley has been a resident of the district since 2007, and has two children. He has a degree in accounting and works as a CPA and is a business owner.

"We are working to address the issue on several fronts and are exploring mutiple options," he said. "I have led discussions on how best to work with existing resources in whatever options the board decides to pursue."

Malley serves as chair of the finance committee and said he has the strongest financial background of all the candidates. During his time on the board, he said the district has brought back programs, worked to lower class size and provided facility upgrades.

"Voters who perhaps remember what we went through eight years ago should know how hard this board worked, not just to save the district but also to rebuild education excellence," Malley said. "It's a remarkable success story. I think the voters of our community appreciate that. We are dedicated to the district's students, parents, teachers, administrators and taxpayers. I believe we have served the interests of all our contituents well and equitably. The chemistry of this board has continued to serve all stakeholders well and I believe can continue to only get better."

"If re-elected I intend to maintain the sound financial practices we’ve instituted and to continue to lay a strong foundation for excellence to provide our children a solid education so that they become lifelong learners," Malley said.

There are four open positions on the board in the upcoming April 2 election. The other four candidates include incumbents Cynthia Kelly, Damon Ascolani and David Molitor, and newcomer Laura Smith.
