Montessori School of Lemont’s Rock Band Releases Recording

Rock Band is a voluntary after school program at the Montessori School of Lemont. The program currently consists of six members, varying in grades 5th to 8th. For spring semester, the band decided to learn and practice a song near and dear to their hearts: “All Star” by Smash Mouth, a song made famous by the movie ‘Shrek.’ Over the semester, each member learned their part in the song and then practiced, practiced, practiced. The song came together in whole over eight short weeks.

As a way to wrap-up the semester, the band recorded their version of the song during their final practice. Each member took their turn and recorded separately, using a laptop and the audio program Audacity. The final result can be listened to on the band’s website: www.msolrockband.bandcamp.com

Instructor Timmy Dustin says, “I wanted them to have something in physical form they could walk away with; in this case, it’s a recording of a song they’ve been working hard on. It’s something they’ll be able to show off and listen to and be proud of, hopefully for years to come.”
