New Lemont Fire Chief Chosen

LEMONT, IL — Daniel Tasso has been selected as the next fire chief of the Lemont Fire Protection District by the board of trustees, the district said in a news release.

Tasso began his career with the fire district in 1987 as a cadet, according to the release. He began working as a part-time firefighter and dispatcher in 1990, and was hired as a full-time firefighter/paramedic in 1992.

In 2000, he left Lemont to join the Downers Grove Fire Department, according to the district. During this time, he continued his education and was promoted through the ranks: first to Battalion Chief of Training and Safety in 2012; second to Deputy Chief of Administration in 2017; third to Deputy Chief of Operations in 2021.

He has over 34 years of experience within the fire service community, the district said.

Tasso also holds an Associate’s in Business Administration (2007); a Bachelor’s in Management (2008); and a Master’s in Public Safety Administration (2017). He has also completed the Illinois Office of the State Fire Marshal Chief Fire Officer program.

Tasso will be appointed Fire Chief at a regular board meeting on Oct. 20, the district said. He will be sworn in and recognized at the regular board meeting on Nov. 17.
