LEMONT, IL — The new Mayfair Park officially opened on Monday, Oct. 1 with nearly 200 people gathering to celebrate. The district said the new Mayfair Park reflects the feedback gathered at “Make your Park” neighborhood planning meetings.

Prior to every park development or renovation, the community is asked to give their suggestions and requests concerning the new park in their neighborhood, the park district said. Then, the park district designs parks that meets the needs of the area.

The park district said the new Mayfair Park features new play equipment, sand volleyball, swings, a walking path and a half basketball court. The Mayfair Monster Mash grand opening celebration was a Halloween-themed event that kicked off the start of Lemontster Days, a series of community events celebrating the autumn season. Guests were invited to wear costumes and a DJ was on-site playing festive tunes.

Local officials, including State Sen. John Curran, Lemont Mayor John Egofske and park district president Brian Pepich cut the ribbon to officially open the park.

“This amazing park would not be what it is today without the input and assistance that was provided by local residents during the Make Your Park planning process. It is also a prime example of our dedication to the District’s park replacement program.” Pepich said in a release.

The Lemont Park District Board of Commissioners also announced the acquisition of two acres of property that adjoin the Mayfair Park site. While the new park was being constructed, the park district said it learned the former property of Illinois Tollway was now available.

“The negotiation process was notably in favor of the park district and therefore, the district moved forward in obtaining the land,” Pepich said. There are no immediate plans for the property.
