Oakwood First Graders Donate To Animal Shelter
The Oakwood first grade students collected $445.53, averaging about two dollars per student.

LEMONT, IL — Oakwood students recently collected coins for Tender Loving Care animal shelter in Homer Glen and learned about responsive citizenship. The school said the collection was part of a unit on “Making a Difference.” The first graders at Oakwood were encouraged to bring dollars for dogs, coins for cats, and pennies for puppies.
According to the school, the money will be used for veterinary care, medication, food, animal adoption expenses and shelter maintenance. As students brought in a donation, they added a construction paper paw to a group poster as a way to recognize and honor the contributions and create excitement about the collection.
Throughout the five week project, students learned that they can make a difference in the lives of animals. In all, the Oakwood first grade students collected $445.53, averaging about two dollars per student.
