Oakwood School Celebrates Music, Young Arts Month
The month of March is Music in Our Schools and Young Arts Month.
LEMONT, IL — The month of March is Music in Our Schools and Young Arts Month. The school celebrated throughout the month and the first grade students presented “Welcome to Seussville” on March 20 and 21. The school said the students were under the direction of music teacher Micah Brandhandler, and the songs were filled with rhyme and alliteration like Dr. Seuss' books.
Young Arts Month was commemorated at Oakwood through an in-room festival of artist, Jackson Pollock. The school said students created action paintings in the style of the artist through a variety of splatter paint methods such as drip, roll, and the pendulum.
Art teacher Cassiopeia Stehlik-Barry said in a release, “The students enjoyed learning about Jackson Pollock’s action painting and using a variety of colors to create their own action paintings.”
