Oakwood School Learns About Internet Safety

The district's Tech@Home series of parent education offerings will conclude on April 19 with the topic of internet safety.

LEMONT, IL — On Friday, April 6, a representative from the Attorney General’s office came to Oakwood School and made presentations to students in kindergarten through second grade. The school said presenter Kathleen McGown used an interactive and engaging video and led Oakwood’s students in learning how to Use Your Netsmartz, or UYN.

The rules of internet safety were discussed, including telling a trusted adult if anything makes you feel sad, scared, or confused; and asking trusted adult before sharing information like a name, address and phone number.

According to the school, the district’s Tech@Home series of parent education offerings will conclude on April 19 with the topic of internet safety. A representative from the Illinois Internet Crimes Against Children division of the Attorney’s General office will provide a parent workshop.
