Oakwood School Supports Pennies For Patients

The school said it surpassed its goal of $5,300, and raised $5,761.41.

LEMONT, IL — Oakwood School has once again partnered with the PTO and the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society to collect spare change. According to the school, the LLS supports research to advance more promising therapies and acts as the voice for blood cancer patients to ensure access to the best available treatments.

Spare change was collected Jan. 29 through Feb. 12. The school said various theme days were included to promote the collection, including Nickel Neon Colors Day and Bring in a Dollar Bill and Wear a Hat Day.

The top classrooms for each grade level were Kindergarten, Mrs. McCloskey’s a.m. class; first grade, Mrs Wittke’s class; and second grade, Mrs. Berner’s class. Each of these classes will be awarded a pajama day.

Gold, silver, and bronze pennants were also provided by the LLS to classrooms for each one hundred dollars collected. The school said it surpassed its goal of $5,300, and raised $5,761.41.
