Oakwood Student Earns Second In State Bus Safety Poster Contest
Second grader (now third grader) Joshua Winston was the second place winner of the contest.

LEMONT, IL — The Secretary of State's Office, in conjunction with the Illinois Association for Pupil Transportation, holds an annual poster contest each spring to increase awareness of school bus safety issues and to publicize National School Bus Safety Week. Oakwood has learned that second grader (now third grader) Joshua Winston was the second place winner of the contest.
According to the school, the theme for the contest was "My Driver – My Safety Hero!" and Winston was the second place winner for the state of Illinois in Division One, Kindergarten - 2nd grade. The school said he and his second grade teacher, Maria Papiez, were honored and recognized at an awards ceremony and reception in Springfield recently.
“He is a fantastic student and an amazing artist," Papiez said in a release. "It is no surprise to me that he received this award. It was well deserved for his hard work.”
