Obituary: Wanda Mierzwa

Wanda Mierzwa passed away April 6 at the age of 101.

Wanda Mierzwa nee Wandas, age 101, of Lemont, passed away April 6. Mierzwa was a resident of Lemont for 71 years. She and her husband, Casey, moved from Chicago to Lemont in 1947. Lemont was a small community that she quickly grew fond of. She witnessed the growth and development of Lemont in which she developed many life long friendships and made it a special place to raise their family. Day to day living, raising a family of three daughters, spending time with her grandchildren, and caring for several pets always kept her busy; yet she always found time to help others.

She was a member of the S.S. Cyril and Methodius Mother's Club and the Altar and Rosary Society for many years. Up until she was 92, she drove to the Downers Grove Park District to swim with a group of senior friends who got together a couple times a week. She did this for over 20 years. Mierzwa called it the "Swim Team", but it was more like treading water while they chatted and told jokes. She was a member of a choral group and loved to sing. One of her favorite songs was "Que Sera, Sera...whatever will be, will be." She loved going to breakfast at the local Lemont restaurants and enjoyed a good cup of coffee.

Over the years, Mierzwa touched the lives of everyone she met with a smile on her face and a kind word. Her family, neighbors and friends are so fortunate she was part of their lives.
